Do you recognize it: squirming like a slug in impossible corners and still thinking you have everything under control? Perhaps you are very flexible, accommodating, caring, empathetic to others’ needs. Or maybe you perform “flexible work hours,” buckle under pressure or figure yourself out completely. Or you don’t expect anything more from the other under the motto “he has it hard enough. When we appeal too much to our flexibility, we forget one thing: we are not a slug. Making a 360° turn can force our bodies or destabilize us. Our joints (and our minds) can get overloaded. We can lose ourselves. And besides: unlike a slug, we do have a spine. We can rise up and set our limits. So you do, dear slug. But hey, this is my limit.
